Dear Hazel,
I’m not sure what happened but it appears my last year and a
half of posts (albeit few) did not get included in the blog. You have just
finished second grade and will be entering third grade in a few months. You are
blossoming into an amazing and creative girl. I couldn’t be more prou of how far
you’ve come to manage your feelings and focus on the right things. Second grade
was a good year for you- you had a great and loving teach Mrs Sims- who really
helped support you to build your confidence, especially with writing and reading.
You are getting better and better with your reading and it is now a part of
your everyday to read signs, commercials, whatever is around.
To help inspire a love of reading you and I are using the
summer to read together at night. The first book I read you was Where the Red
Fern Grows and it was so amazing to see your interest in the story and your
imagination of what it must be like for Billy and his dogs. I think you should
rea again when you get older and see if you remember it the same way when we
read it together. Unfortunately, the last few chapters of the book were so
tough to read and we found ourselves in a weeping mass on the couch as we read
the last few word in that last chapter. Now we’re reading something more playful
and one of my favorite’s- James and the Giant Peach. I think we’ll read Black
Beauty next or Charlotte’s Web.
This school year you did some things for the first time such
as Parkour at the Boys and Girls Club as well as joined a soccer team (which
daddy ended up coaching). While you’re team didn’t have a lot of W’s in the column,
you all had a great time. The Raptors!
You also joined a Girls Scout Troup and participated in
events at the PAWS rescue shelter and sold 50+ boxes of cookies (mostly to our
family and we still have many boxes in the pantry : )
You also mastered your skiing and swimming and I’m hoping to
get you on a swim team in the fall.
This school year we went on a few fun family vacations
including a ski trip to Big White where we had the best time ice skating,
skiing, hot tubing, playing in the snow and drinking lots of hot chocolate.
We also went on an amazing roadtrip in Southern Utah where
we visited esveral national parks – Arches, Canyonlands, Monument, Bryce and
Zion. We went horse back riding, went o a dinosaur park and did some great
hikes. I made a book about the trip and I hope you still have it by the time
you read this.
What is Hazel like these days? Here are some things about
you and what you like:
·
You love dogs and animals – all of them but
especially horses
·
You learned to ride a bike on June 1 2018 ad
haven’t gotten off it since
·
You love pokemon, any really any show. You are
truly an electronic loving kid
·
You are super interested in dinosaurs and
dragons
·
You love anything to do with the moon
·
You loved doing Performance Arts Camp and
performing on stage- singing and acting. You felt so proud and happy
·
You love hot dogs, pizza, pb&j, pasta, rosemary
crackers, popcorn, ice cream
·
You seem to be very sentimental and love
tradition- you don’t like change and get very attached to the stories behind something
whether its your art and the experience you had making it or a family holiday
tradition. I love this so much about you. It means you appreciate the things we
do and the purpose and intent behind them and it brings you comfort.
I think you were thrilled when we got Farley this last
January- you always wanted a puppy and so far he’s been a good one. You had a
really hard time remembering his name in the beginning but now you can’t forget
him.
My dear Hazel- I really can’t tell you how much I love you-
it is indescribable and I will always love you this much and more. You are
clever and have a funny bone in you and seem to be always happy. Just know if
you ever need anything or someone to lean on I am here for you ALWAYS.
With so much love it hurts my heart to think about, Mommy.
